Winter Guard Tarps found this archive of the Color Guard Historical Society which is no longer a working website.  We present it here for historical purposes.    We hope you find it useful.

The “List” of Non-Active Guards

The Colorguard Historical Society is proud to bring you Inactive and Active guard lists with a ‘group page‘ for each guard. We welcome additions/corrections as some of our memories are starting to fade (lol).

We are here to remember THE guards and people who were ‘the movement’ before WGI was organized in 1977 – yes, Virginia, there was competitive guard before 1977.

Welcome to the Colorguard Historical Society – We are a social network of educators and keepers of the history of guard and welcome all of you to join, view, and post your personal marching / teaching history along with your own guard`s contribution to this sport.

Colorguard Historical Society .org site is pretty easy to use, we suggest you create a profile and become friends with other profiles and join the groups that you march in and the groups that you love. Please create a profile as an individual NOT as a guard name – we have set up groups for many guards – let us know if your team is not listed! Any questions… just ask! Of course, you don’t need to be a member in order to watch videos and view pictures but we would like if you joined and be a voice.

We encourage our members to post videos, however, we do prefer you to use third party sites, such as YouTube, Google, AOL, etc. as we are under limited bandwidth and this allows more video history. Please keep in mind that you are responsible for your uploaded content to those sites and we will not be responsible for copyright infringement. Pictures and videos and show music that is yours is very much encouraged – if any one needs help in digitizing old movies or vhs – drop us a note.

To do so, find the ’embed’ code from your video and apply that code to the designated spot after clicking ‘add video’. Pictures, weblinks and gallery links are also most welcome – we suggest FlickR picture slide shows. Please drop us a note if you are in need any further help. Education through printed words, pictures and videos and ALL under one resource!

We all have a voice… lets have some fun with history !!

A Definition and the Difference of Winterguard and Colorguard

Winterguard is an indoor colorguard activity, derived from the outdoor summer activity that is commonly part of marching band or drum corps. Unlike colorguard, which performs outdoors on a football field or parade route (and is part of a marching band or drum corps), winterguard is performed indoors, usually in a gym or indoor arena, during the winter season. Also, there is no band involved. Guards perform to a recording of various musical genres. A winter guard unit performs using dance, acroba… Continue

Congratulations to the Phantom Regiment the DCI 2008 Champion

DCI this year was very exciting – in fact, it hasn’t been this thrilling in many years. The top four corps have been in full battle now for a few weeks edging each other until last night’s final with Phantom’s “I am Spartacus” proving themselves with a mere .125 over the Blue Devils. I saw Phantom twice this year and must say that it was a show that held my attention from warm up until the ending “murder” of the Roman Drum Major. Congratulations!

My guard history!

I am 16 years old and I am going into my senior year of high school in Trumbull. I have marched with Trumbull since 7th grade when I was in their middle school guard. My freshman year I was in the open guard, But after medalling in 2006, we are now a World guard! WOOT WOOT! This year, besides Trumbull, I will be marching with the Hurricanes. Last summer was my first drum corps summer and it was with the caballeros, it was an amazing summer!!! Anyways, much more guards to come in my future!

Who We Are and How Did This Happen…

Welcome to the CGHS. This is a long term and very passionate project about the real beginnings of Colorguard and Winterguard groups, its’ innovators, early competitions, real stories from real people from around the country that championed this art form. We are sponsored by RIFLEBEAR.com …where we design unique colorguard & marching fanwear !!

April, 2007 – It all began after attending WGI 2007 for the first time in over 20 years, Tony Jenners had a vision of creating a private website for himself and close friends devoted to everything colorguard & drum corps after seeing so many of his buds still active in the sport. It was shortly after sharing his idea he realized the vision was too special to keep private and began a design company for drum corps, guards and bands. Asking his friends Patrick Vicari and TJ Romano to join up with him and help create, produce and market Riflebear Designs.

One of the first designs was a “what year did you march” t-shirt promotion giving access to everyone to declare their marching history, an idea was born! Patrick continued in this vein and began designing a ‘classics’ collection which after months of diligent work, it was decided to change direction and go another route with our designs and focus on guards of the past.. It was from this point that we charted this new project.

After many nights of brainstorming and discussing history and classics, Patrick`s concept of a “Colorguard Historical Society“ along with Tony`s vast knowledge of history & website design lead us to the creation of a unique website… introducing it as… “Colorguard Historical Society”, A most unique place… the first place of its kind… to compile and collect history ,stories, individual photos and videos of the great guards that paved the way of this unique sport. A place for old-timers (aka:”Old School”) and newbies (aka:”New School”) to come together, share, talk and learn together. We began the group in Facebook to a wonderful response and provide this website as a way to further connect with our non-Facebook friends. We have taken the added route of setting up the Drum Corps Historical Society. Please remember these are long term projects and in time the history unfolds.

This is a place of fun facts and maybe not so fun truths…… and is a project created from passion of this unique sport. One of the first ideas was to list the now defunct guards with the utmost respect and honor !! The “Guard Pages“ are up and running so now it`s up to us to add our colorguard/winterguard history, music, photos( Use AOL Pictures, Photobucket or Flickr ) and free to embed 3rd party videos of guards.

Enjoy our website and feel free to get involved in the NING network.
Thanks
Tony, Patrick , TJ
